Walan Giiny (strong heart) is a mixed media display by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists living with disability. The exhibition features works by artists from the Nandjimadji art group, based on the Sunshine Coast.

The word ‘Nandjimadji’ comes from the Gubbi Gubbi (Kabi Kabi) language and means ‘to lighten the load’ or ‘make something less heavy’. The Nandjimadji art group consists of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists who tell their story of strength through art works on canvas and painted everyday objects.

Walan Giiny bridges the traditions of one of the world’s oldest living cultures with modern concepts of disability. The exhibition showcases the participation and contributions that Indigenous Australians with disability make in building the capacity of our communities.
