A new Australian film The Sapphires is set to hit Queensland screens on Thursday 9 August 2012, starring Deborah Mailman, Jessica Mauboy, Miranda Tapsell, Shair Sebbens and Bridesmaids Chris O’Dowd.
The Sapphires is an inspiring and heartfelt tale set in the swinging sixties. The film centres on a quartet of young, talented singers from a remote Aboriginal mission in rural Australia who, guided by a kind-hearted and soul-loving manager, are plucked from obscurity and given the opportunity to entertain American troops in Vietnam.
The four bold and spirited women are catapulted onto the world stage as Australia’s answer to the Supremes. In their whirlwind journey of discovery, they find not only their powerhouse voices but love, loss and friendship.
The Sapphires is a crowd-pleasing combination of comedy, heart and romance set to an unbeatable soul-music soundtrack amidst the racial and social upheaval of the late 1960s. A jewel-bright and sparkling Australian gem, The Sapphires is not to be missed.
The Sapphires opens in cinemas Australia wide on Thursday 9 August 2012. For more information please visit http://www.hopscotchfilms.com.au/films/coming-soon/thesapphires-movie/.
