Cate Maddy translates readings of her own surroundings through the mapping and abstraction of form and colour. By collecting shapes from her local environments, Maddy uses both traditional painting techniques and urban art techniques to create a hybrid world of contradictions. Her paintings represent artificial environments where a metaphorical language is established through colour and form. The distillation of shapes isolates parts of the original imagery and creates a spatial silence, engaging the viewer in a complex dialogue between natural and constructed environments.
