Rubber Soul Revolver at QPAC Concert Hall

Witness now four of Australian’s most rapidly ascending musical talents – Marlon Williams, Husky Gawenda of Husky, Jordie Lane, and Fergus Linacre of Kingswood – as they take to the stage to present the world-first live performance of Rubber Soul Revolver.

Few records match the timeless beauty, energy and musical imagination of The Beatles’ Rubber Soul and Revolver, their sixth and seventh albums. Oft lauded as two of the greatest pop albums of all time, the inimitable studio masterpieces radically changed pop music; 50 years on their influence is immeasurable and continue to influence and inspire contemporary songsters.

Fergus Linacre Frontman of Melbourne Band Kingswood, Fergus Linacre first sang in a band aged just 11 with school mate guitarist Alex Laksa. That fuelled a dream of making music that has never wavered. Kingswood play their own inventive, distinctive and modern brand of Australian rock. In 2014 the band released their debut record Microscopic Wars, recorded in Nashville with Grammy Award-winning producer Vance Powell to critical acclaim, including an ARIA nomination for Best Rock Album. With years of relentless touring and performing at major festivals across Australia (including Splendour in the Grass, Big Day Out, Falls Festival and Groovin’ the Moo) Kingswood now live in America and are working on a second album.
Husky Gawenda is the singer, songwriter and guitarist of the much loved Melbourne band Husky. He has spent the last few years travelling the world, performing with his band, releasing two albums worldwide. In 2013, he received the APRA Professional Development Award, and in 2014 the Vanda and Young Songwriting Competition for his song Saint Joan. Husky’s songs are “breathtaking in their ambition, a shimmering fog of kaleidoscopic story-telling” Rolling Stone.
Marlon Williams is a singer-songwriter, from the port town of Lyttelton in New Zealand. In 2013 he won the New Zealand Music Awards Country Song and Country Album of the Year as a duo with acclaimed singer Delaney Davidson. Relocating to Melbourne mid-2013, Williams began performing solo, quickly building a cult following. In 2014, major festival and television appearances led to sold-out tours of Australia and New Zealand. “Expect to see and hear a lot more from this man with the voice of an angel” BILLBOARD

Jordie Lane Born to a comedian and a clown, Jordie Lane spent his formative years in his parents’ travelling circus. He’s renowned for his witty storytelling, and yet his music seems like it comes from another place and time. The songs are nostalgic and immediately affecting, his rhythmic guitar playing is authentic and the rich resonance of his voice is simply otherworldly. “Take pieces of Jeff Tweedy, Ron Sexsmith and Jackson Browne, melt them down in a beautiful crucible of music and you end up with Jordie Lane” FBI Radio

The twenty-eight songs of Rubber Soul and Revolver will be performed, starting with Drive My Car and closing with Tomorrow Never Knows, superbly presented with state-of-the-art sound production and no gimmicks – just the music.
