Point Quartet

Point Quartet

Hear this acclaimed Australian string quartet tackle some of Classical music’s most challenging pieces in this special concert.

Composers have frequently turned to the ‘intimate voices’ of the string quartet to express their deepest emotions and Schubert and Shostakovich are a natural pairing as both juxtapose the human and the inhuman. Point Quartet features Cameron Hough (violin), Matthew Gillett (violin), Anna Jack (viola) and Ngaio Toombes (cello).

Together the group continues their cycle of Shostakovich quartets playing String Quartet No. 2 in A major alongside Schubert’s iconic and intense Death and the Maiden String Quartet No. 14 in D minor and String Quartet No. 3 Absence by Australian composer Houston Dunleavy. Absence is written in memory of Daniel Pearl, a journalist killed by Al Qaeda in Pakistan and this is the Australian premiere of this work.
