Parallel Universes

QUT Creative Industries Precinct presents Parallel Universes, a retrospective of seminal video art from the 1970s and ‘80s, at The Block from 24 July to 4 August.

Parallel Universes explores the diverse conceptual and stylistic experimentation and practice in moving image across Australia, the UK, America and Japan that emerged between 1970 and 1985, a seminal period for video art.

Video art’s varied history and its evolution will be showcased through the work of some of the world’s most acclaimed video artists including Bill Viola, Mike Parr, Bruce Nauman, Nam June Paik, Peter Callas and Dara Birnbaum.

The period between 1970 and 1985 was a significant time for video art. During this period, video art grew as an identifiable practice and became increasingly popular with artists, attracting support from international art museums.
