GYARU (Girl)

GYARU (Girl)

Tiffany Atkin is showcasing her newest exhibition, GYARU at Lust for Life Gallery from February 5. The works examine the concepts and representations of female sexuality through visual art mediums.

GYARU (ギャル / “Girl”) is an exhibition that explores how femininity is portrayed in modern Japanese pop culture. The way individuality, fashion and behaviour are portrayed in Japanese mainstream culture will be placed under the microscope in order to see how the practices and ideologies of feminism are represented. Japanese street fashion, the Lolita movements and more have heavily inspired GYARU which is supported by Lust for Life, iro iro POP!, Harajuku Gyoza, 4 Pines Brewing Company, Maiocchi and the Takara Gallery Workroom (Japan).
