A Patriotic Event recreates the atmosphere and enthusiasm of Australia at the outbreak of war. The Brisbane Excelsior Band, the University of Queensland Pipe Band and the spectacular Father Henry Willis Pipe Organ will all bring to life the sounds that typified Australia’s fighting spirit in 1914. Rousing choruses, songs and musical performances will evoke that spirit of community and patriotism just a week before the centenary of the landings at Gallipoli. As Australia’s young men went off to battle, the war effort at home was marked by demonstrations of support, including Empire Day concerts and Red Cross and YMCA fundraising events. A Patriotic Event will revive these gala spectacles for the modern day.
