Woodford Folk Festival

Ring in the New Year at Woodford Folk Festival

Get your gumboots and tie-dyed accoutrements ready – the Christmas and New Year period brings with it the annual Woodford Folk Festival. A renowned celebration of alternative and folk melodies, the festival is one of Queensland’s biggest musical celebrations and a great way to welcome 2013.

The event sees the tiny town of Woodford, near Caboolture, burgeon into a mass of musical spirit. It’s a smorgasbord of folk (and generally creative) endeavours, with more than 2,000 performers and 438 events scheduled for the six-day (and six-night) event. Woodford Folk Festival is perhaps one of Queensland’s most beloved festivals, with a distinct emphasis placed upon community spirit. This certainly makes it one of the most family-friendly events in the state, with all ages welcome to participate in the festivities.

National and international attractions abound in each year’s festival’s line-up, with this year’s program running from December 27 through to January 1. Music, dancing, theatre, writing, film, children’s entertainment and debate will interact with art and craft workshops, circus performances, cabaret and parades. The 35 performance venues will cater to the crowds and acts, with the streets lined with food haunts to provide some essential energy throughout. Those who choose to attend this weekend’s celebrations won’t be disappointed – performances include those by Angus Stone, Cub Scouts, Emma Louise, Darren Percival, Kate Miller-Heidke, Hermitude, Tim Hart, The Saints and John Butler Trio.
