Treat your ears to free live music at Valley Fiesta

The city’s biggest street party is set to blast into Brisbane this weekend, combining free live music with a pop-up Asian banquet and sustainable fashion swap.

You may usually spend your two days of freedom with body horizontal, feet on the couch and eyes half closed, but this weekend you’ll be tempted to get those feet shuffling and shoulders shimmying at Brisbane’s biggest street party, Valley Fiesta. The all-ages festival brings a corker line-up of acts to Fortitude Valley across Saturday August 23 and Sunday August 24, as well as a few new daytime events.

The Preatures will headline the festival bill, which also includes Dan Sultan, Allday, The Creases, Basenji, Young Franco and more. The recently renovated Brunswick Street Mall will play hospitable host, while a bunch of other happenings will be sprinkled throughout the Valley precinct. Music lovers can head in early on the Saturday to rummage through CDs and records at the Red Bull Crate Diggers & Music Market between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm, while the Valley Swap Shoppe will be inviting locals to bring along five neglected items of clothing and swap them for pre-loved and vintage pieces.

All that dancing will no doubt have bellies rumbling, so refuel on nibbles from surrounding restaurants at the pop-up Asian banquet Chinatown Chow Down from midday to 10:00 pm. Take your pick of four sittings and secure your ticket online. As the sun dips behind Brunswick Street, brave souls can hang around Chinatown for the chance to let loose onstage with a live band at Brisbane’s biggest outdoor karaoke bar. Punters can also take advantage of special retail offers from neighbouring boutiques and join more than 30 partner events over the weekend.
