Gothic fairytale inspires dance production The Red Shoes
Dance, original film and live music combine for the world-premiere season of Expressions Dance Company’s The Red Shoes.
Danish poet and author Hans Christian Andersen penned the gothic fairytale back in 1845, British filmmakers crafted a film adaptation a little more than 100 years later in 1948, and now Brisbane’s Expressions Dance Company is taking on the classic with a new production inspired by the timeless story. The graceful movements of Expressions Dance Company dancers will be complemented by live music from Southern Cross Soloists and choreography from Natalie Weir, with Elise May in the lead role.
The world-premiere season of The Red Shoes will open at the QPAC Playhouse tomorrow, Friday July 18 and offer just eight performances until Saturday July 26. Comprising a blend of dance, original film and live music, the romantic fantasy follows a woman as her obsession with dance leads her on a trail of self-destruction. Secure your seat online.
