Australia’s first black protest album is given new life in The Painted Ladies
Settle in for an insightful and deeply moving evening as the next crop of contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists reinterpret Australia’s first black protest album.
In 1973, Aboriginal music pioneer Vic Simms recorded his album The Loner while serving time in Bathurst Gaol. Now, 41 years later, Vic along with a bunch of talented musicians will perform the songs all over again, as The Painted Ladies comes to the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts in Fortitude Valley. Singer-songwriter Luke Peacock, band The Medics and others will all come together to give new life to Australia’s first black protest songs. The live show will also soon be accompanied by a new version of the album and a documentary. The live performance will kick off at 7:00 pm this Friday September 19 and Saturday September 20. Book your ticket here.
