Get crafty with a class at The Joynery
Just like knitting has seen a peak in popularity in recent years, getting crafty is no longer just for retirees or children. A rise in the homemade continues to grow in a craze that not only helps save some money in your pocket, but can also be a lot of fun. The Joynery will commence in March – a school coaching in crafty and creative acts across a slew of subjects.
The Joynery’s first class will begin on March 9 and will be held within the cosy interiors of Morningside’s Southside Tea Room. The concept behind the school is to create a crowd-sourced, low-cost community enterprise in Brisbane, sharing skills amongst locals with those who want to learn something new.
Current classes for autumn include the opportunity to bake the perfect scone, cake decorate like a pro, discover bee-friendly gardens, learn basic bike mechanics, understand bridge and crack cryptic crosswords. Experts in each field will be leading the lessons, lending their wisdom for an hour or so each time. You’ll be taught by the likes of master baker Gillian Bell of Cake Girl fame, as well as discover urban horticulture with Jack and Kat of Brisbane sensation Bee One Third. Lessons are held on Saturday afternoons and for a fee that ranges from $20–$45.
