The Hamburg Ballet brings Nijinsky to QPAC

One of the most gifted male dancers of the 20th century, Russian ballet dancer and choreographer Vaslav Nijinsky was an inspiration to many. In honour of this enigmatic idol, founder and artistic director of The Hamburg Ballet John Neumeier has presented an annual tribute to Vaslav since 1975, with the latest production making its way to Brisbane.

In the company’s first visit to Australia, Nijinsky premieres at QPAC this Sunday August 26. A bold, dramatic piece of theatre, showcasing the extraordinary technique of one of the world’s great dance companies, Nijinsky continues the homage in a gripping full-length ballet.

As a choreographer, Vaslav Nijinsky founded provocative new directions and a dance vision that paved the way for modern choreography, so it seems only fitting that the innovative company that is The Hamburg Ballet is the one to deliver such a tribute. See The Hamburg Ballet’s Nijinsky from August 26–28 or its second ballet A Midsummer Night’s Dream from August 30, as a lead-up to the company’s 40-year jubilee in 2013.
