South Bank christmas program

Yuletide on the riverbank with South Bank Christmas

If the overflowing crowds at Brisbane’s supermarkets and shopping centres prove too much to bear, head straight to the banks of the Brisbane River for a decidedly festive affair. The South Bank Christmas program has a swarm of activities to enjoy over the festive period, which should keep all ages occupied 24/7.

For the 12 days of Christmas, from December 13– 24, the cultural precinct is host to a culmination of modern-Australian Christmas affairs. The program is whimsically titled Sugarplums and Possum Chums and will transform the Parklands, Little Stanley lawns and Streets Beach into somewhat of a magical wonderland, albeit with the traditional wintery snow replaced by the grassy lawns and leafy gardens.

Partnering with the State Library of Queensland, the program will host plenty of all-ages activities, including a summer-inspired beach cinema, storytelling under the trees, musical performances and a giant sandcastle to enjoy. Older crowds may also like to partake in the Mistletoe and Melodies Lawn Party, with rowdy lawn games accompanied by acoustic melodies on the green. The proximity of this affair to Little Stanley makes it an ideal stopover before migration towards the feasting (and drinking) options at the neighbouring dining precinct. For full program information, cinema schedules and all location details head straight to the South Bank website.
