Gallic melodies surround So Frenchy So Chic

As well as being home to an impressive array of cultural landmarks, such as the Eiffel Tower, France is fast becoming recognised for its vibrant music scene. Brisbanites will have a chance to sample some of the European nation’s musicality when a number of its famed performers travel from its cobbled streets straight to Brisbane’s cultural forecourt.

Brisbane Powerhouse is now no longer just the preferred location for a lengthy Sunday session or a rambunctious comedy hour, but it will also soon become one of the best places to delight your ears with the sound of French musicians. The return of the So Frenchy So Chic sessions sees a celebration of Gallic musicality in all its styles, but typically favouring those that could easily feature on a chillout album or two.

On January 18, the pop group Revolver will be playing as a part of these sessions. The bouncy songs of the trio are 1960s-inspired and catchy enough that they were nominated best newcomers at the recent French Grammys, Les Victories de la Musique. The group formed in 2006 and, interestingly, performs in English rather than the boys’ native tongue. This penchant for English was formed by Revolver’s love for an intriguing mix of British musicians, including Radiohead, The Kinks and The Beatles, which also comes out to play in the band’s melodies.
