Savour smørrebrød and cider at the 2014 Scandinavian Festival

Austin Street in Newstead will be transformed into a mini Scandinavia this weekend as the third annual Scandinavian Festival delights locals and expats.

Jolly Brisbane dwellers will be shovelling smørrebrød, waffles and Carlsberg beer into their gobs this Sunday as the Scandinavian Festival sparks up on Austin Street, Newstead. The annual street party is a joyous celebration of Scandinavian culture – meaning all manner of food, drinks and handicrafts from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Estonia and Finland will be making a most welcome local appearance. Take advantage of free entry and swing by between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm this Sunday September 14 to browse market stalls showcasing Scandinavian fashion, gifts, art and design.

Eyeball furniture and homewares from Work Shop Objects, antique pieces from dansk vintage and laser-engraved sustainable timber homewares from Dirt by Earth, or pop in to The Createry Yarn Lounge to get involved in some wool-based DIY. Those in need of a nibble will have a wealth of nosh to choose from, ranging from roast pork sandwiches, hot dogs and æbleskiver from The Danish Club, to bullar and other treats from The Finnish Club, and waffles from The Norwegian Club. Coffee, cider, beer and wine will also be available. Enjoy live entertainment from folk-dancing and fiddle groups, as well as ABBA Live performing classic hits and Pippi Longstocking and a viking ambling along Austin Street.
