Nick Earls' World of Chickens visits Metro Arts

Nick Earls’ World of Chickens visits Metro Arts

Nick Earls is one of Brisbane’s best-known writers. Armed with pen and paper, he has managed to successfully capture a sense of the Brisbane community and its locals since the late 1980s. In 2001 Nick released World of Chickens, a story that explores friendship, family, love and ambition and all set within a suburban takeaway joint. The tale is staged around the life of two medical students, working their way through uni with a job at Ron Todd’s World of Chickens. It explores the two lads’ complicated and awkward relationship with the owner, Ron Todd, his daughter Sophie and wife Zel. Metro Arts’ version of the tale is the debut production of Short Case Theatre Company, which is a theatre initiative made up of junior doctors and doctors-in training. All proceeds from the stage will go towards the work of the University of Queensland’s Medical Society charity, the Ashintosh Foundation. World of Chickens will be performed from May 12–15, with tickets available for purchase online.
