National Bookshop Day

Get between the covers on National Bookshop Day 2013

Whether you’re a child discovering the magic of words or a mature armchair traveller reliving the thrill of youth, a good story has the power to delight, educate and entertain. Bookworms are invited to celebrate Brisbane’s beloved bookshops on National Bookshop Day on Saturday August 10.

As more and more people start to flip open their e-readers and download books online, purist bookworms may live in fear that their favourite bookshops will eventually be forced to close their doors. But for one glorious day on Saturday August 10, readers can take time out to celebrate the role played by bookstores as the guardians of good stories, and the sacred spaces where anyone and everyone is welcome.

Avid Reader in West End will be hosting a full day of activities, including author readings, face painting, giveaways and live music. Mary Ryan’s Books, Music & Coffee in Milton will also join in the fun, with dress-ups, prizes and a host of local authors like Nick Earls and Kate Morton popping by to inspire readers. Find out what’s happening at your local bookshop online.
