New Brisbane of Museum

Trawl a collection of curios at new Museum of Brisbane

Brisbane may be a young city, but it was hardly formed yesterday. In the time since Matthew Flinders first set foot in Moreton Bay (in 1799), the city has grown from penal colony to free settlement (in 1838) to a tropical metropolis. Our beloved home’s journey, through its various stages, can be seen recorded through the pristine new displays of the Museum of Brisbane.

After a lengthy renovation project (and a temporary home downtown) the Museum of Brisbane has resettled amidst the stately building of Brisbane City Hall. The historic destination will reopen its doors to Brisbane’s residents and visitors this weekend, from Saturday April 6. Inside its sanctioned walls, the museum is intended to act as the ideal place to learn about what Brisbane stands for as a city – a place that represents the river city’s people, places and history. A number of exhibitions will travel through the museum each year, individually focusing on a glimpse into the city’s most iconic events, including its beginnings, its unique residents and most memorable moments on the world stage.

If you wish to visit the historic shrine’s new home, the Museum of Brisbane is located in a purpose-built gallery on the top of City Hall. The venue’s new facelift will also coincide with the opening of exhibitions The River: A History of Brisbane,  Light Fantastic: Expo 88 Parades Re-wired and Panoramas.
