Explore the soft scenes of Michael Muir

Explore the soft scenes of Michael Muir

As Pablo Picasso once said, “Painting is just another way of keeping a diary”. It’s not uncommon for painters to use their talents to record the world around them, though more often than not it’s an exaggerated state of reality – one with a far prettier palette in use. Michael Muir is one such artist who paints a softer view of the landscape surrounding him.

Michael was born in Scotland but has spent years traversing the globe – flitting around his mother’s homeland of the Philippines before settling in Sydney. Perhaps it is this global approach that has inspired Michael’s interest in recording the landscape around him. Largely abstract, his works are often a simplified interpretation of the environment. Natural light and playful hues also take an important role in the works, helping to form blurred shapes which coincide on canvas and create a soft reflection of the surrounding world.

It’s this unique perspective on landscapes that has garnered Michael plenty of praise. He has been a finalist in a number of award exhibitions including The Metro 5 and Sulman and Fleurieu Art Prize. You can peruse Michael’s works when a collection arrives shortly for exhibition at Jan Murphy Gallery. The Fortitude Valley gallery will display the pieces from May 21 to June 8.
