See the world in technicolour with Living Springs

See the world in technicolour with Living Springs

After traversing the globe to locales as varied as New York, India and Europe, local indigenous artist Elisa Jane Carmichael has returned to Brisbane and will be displaying the fruits of her travels at The Box in West End from January 4–10.

A descendant of the Ngugi people, one of the three clan groups of the Quandamooka people of Moreton Bay, Elisa injects a vibrant blend of indigenous motifs and pop art colours into her work. This dazzling combination of aesthetics saw her work exhibited in numerous galleries across London during her 18-month working visit. Elisa’s work was also hand-selected by fashion legend Paul Smith for display in his Heathrow store.

New exhibition Living Springs is a response to experiences and landscapes Elisa was exposed to during her travels. Elisa’s work includes an array of paintings, drawings and installations produced after returning home to Quandamooka Country. Elisa’s works highlight the spirit of life, inspired by her grandmother’s teachings and her family’s spiritual connections with the land, as well as the importance of caring for your country of belonging.
