Celebrate Queensland band culture with Live! at SLQ

Queensland may still radiate the youthful glow of a place that is only just more than 200 years old, but in that time it has still managed to create an impressively strong musical presence. The State Library of Queensland (SLQ) will be celebrating this musical history of our state with its Live! program.

In 2013, SLQ will be introducing Live! Queensland Band Culture much to the delight of music lovers all over town. The cultural event will be a celebration of more than 160 years of music from the state and will display the progression of sound and style that has been achieved. The musical journey will traverse all genres, from traditional brass bands and the jazz era, to the grunge enthusiasts and emergence of Silverchair later down the track. Crowds can expect to be kept entertained throughout the historical event through a collection of live performances, exhibitions and special events.

As a part of the festivities there will also be music-themed films screened on Sunday evenings, including Rock the BellsBe Here to Love Me and Friends Forever. A little earlier in the day, Sunday Sessions from 12:00 pm will also be held filled with live music performances. These will showcase the talents of local bands and solo artists, exploring a range of rock, folk and styles in between. Live! Queensland Band Culture will be held from May 11 to September 15, with its full program guide available online.
