Kathy Temin at GOMA

Kathy Temin’s bold creations come to GOMA

Bringing her thought-provoking collection of installation pieces to GOMA, Kathy Temin crafts works that are set to surprise.

In My Monument: White forest, which will be on display at GOMA from Saturday September 28 until Sunday February 16, 2014, cartoon-like trees made from fluffy fabrics are contrasted with a sky-blue background. Kathy Temin’s exhibition introduces private experience with the public world. Stemming from a family history of displacement and loss, Kathy’s work is concerned with the way objects evoke other places and other times.

Taking American modernist Frank Stella’s maze-like 1960s paintings and reworking these images as a magical pathway through trees, Kathy’s installation pieces create a surreal yet physical landscape and invite audiences to step into her fantasy-inspired realm. Following a trip to Europe in 2008, where Kathy visited Holocaust sites and memorials, Kathy’s family’s past enriched her view of the landscape. Consequently, the exhibition is a site for collective remembering.
