The Japanese Film Festival

Japanese Film Festival arrives in Brisbane

Embracing the beauty, complexity and, at times, absurdity of Japanese culture, Japanese Film Festival will bring a diverse collection of films to Brisbane during October.

Since 1997, Japanese Film Festival has exhibited the uniqueness of Japan’s film industry. This year, festival director Masafumi Konomi has steered the festival to three new locations, which means Brisbane, Perth and Canberra dwellers can now join in on the viewings in their own cities. Featuring a mix of anime, cult, classic and top-grossing Japanese films, the festival will run from October 16–20.

The festival will open with a screening of The Great Passage, a celebration of a man’s vision to create the best Japanese dictionary, which stars two of Japan’s leading actors, Ryuhei Matsuda and Aoi Miyazaki. The festival will close with Fruits of Faith, a drama capturing the Japanese spirit of dedication starring funnyman Sadao Abe in a rare solemn role. See the festival’s features at Events Cinemas in The Myer Centre.
