Embrace regrets at I Should Have Drunk More Champagne

Embrace regrets at I Should Have Drunk More Champagne

It doesn’t have to be a drunken dalliance, but rather it could be a simple error in judgement that forms your biggest regret. Over the course of a lifetime, you’re bound to accrue quite a few regrets. A new performance piece at Metro Arts seeks us to embrace them rather than run away, heads bowed in shame.

As regret is inevitable (and typically embarassing), I Should Have Drunk More Champagne seems to be doing a good deed in encouraging general acceptance of our downfalls. The creation of performance gang The Good Room, the show takes inspiration from comedienne Lucille Ball who claimed, “I’d rather regret the things I’ve done than regret the things I haven’t done”. Following the famed redhead’s lead, the creative cluster welcomes strangers to become a part of an initiative to anonymously submit their biggest regrets. Inundated with responses, a collection of more than 500 individual responses has now been gathered.

Each of these embarassing admissions will now be played out to the audience as a part of the performance piece. You’ll hear pleas that range from the heartfelt “I regret letting fear take over” to the hilarious “I regret having sex with a trombone player”. From March 27 to April 13, I Should Have Drunk More Champagne will be available to enjoy from the basement section of Metro Arts in the city. Tickets are available to purchase online.
