QPAC to host the emotive voice of Gurrumul

Gurrumul, one of Australia’s most powerful voices, is celebrating the launch of his new album with a nation-wide tour, The Gospel Songs.

Aboriginal signer, Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu, was born blind. As a child growing up on Elcho Island off the coast of tropical North East Arnhem Land, he was deeply influenced by the traditional music of his clan, as well as the stirring gospel hymns he heard at his local Methodist church. Gurrumul has affected the public in a way no other artist has done in this country, singing songs about identity, spirit and connection with the land

On August 2, Gurrumul will bring his powerful pipes to QPAC as part of his six-date national tour, The Gospel Songs. The tour coincides with the release of his third studio recording, The Gospel Album, which is heartbreakingly tender, and beautiful in its simplicity. The mesmerising artist, renowned for his high tenor voice, will be accompanied by an orchestra and the angelic BEMAC choir in what promises to be a stirring performance.
