Future Beauty: 30 Years of Japanese Fashion opens at GOMA

Future Beauty: 30 Years Of Japanese Fashion, the exhibition fashion fans have been waiting patiently for, is finally opening at GOMA this weekend, showcasing an incredible collection of garments from innovative Japanese designers.

Future Beauty: 30 Years Of Japanese Fashion is one of the most anticipated exhibitions to arrive at GOMA in recent memory and for good reason. This showcase of innovative and elegant Japanese fashion will present close to 100 garments, ranging from contemporary styles to experimental designs and will detail the impact of Japanese designers on contemporary fashion aesthetic.

The opening weekend of Future Beauty will include many special events that exhibition goers can attend. On Saturday November 1 at 11:00 am, the Chief Curator of Future Beauty, Akiko Fukai will participate in an introductory lecture, detailing the history of Japanese fashion, the planning of the exhibition and the management of such a large endeavour. From 1:00 pm, there will be a tour of the exhibition, led by Assistant Curator Tarun Nagesh, who will provide further insight into the specifics of Future Beauty garments.

Later in the afternoon, exhibition attendees will be able to listen to Akira Isogawa in conversation with curator and writer, Alison Kubler, followed by a talk from Comme Des Garçons Pocket store owner and buyer, Christine St Clair on the philosophy of the label and their conceptual approach to fashion.

Sunday November 2 will bring about the debut of Future Fashion Sundays, which will occur on November 2, December 14, January 18 and February 15. Each Future Fashion Sunday will be packed with a full itinerary of activities including fabric & garment swaps, one-on-one conversation sessions with fashion industry professionals, pop-up talks from curators and fashion illustrator workshops. The Future Beauty: Up Late series will begin on November 21 with a performance from J-Rock band, Broken Doll.
