Find Crude Tools, Feeble Actions at Metro Arts
Much like religion and politics, erotica is rather still a taboo subject to discuss, especially amongst a bunch of strangers. Despite this fact, erotica remains one of the most popular subjects explored in art. From amongst the debris of Pompeii to modern photography tomes dedicated to the theme, erotica remains an area of intrigue for creatives all around the globe.
Brisbane-based artist Anastasia Booth will explore erotica in her latest exhibition at Metro Arts, Crude Tools, Feeble Actions. The works included in the exhibition each touch on the genre, combining it with both the fanciful and the DIY for deliberately varied results. The subject also delves into Anastasia’s interest in art history, and how society’s changing profile has also changed its artwork and association with the subject. The exhibition will also touch on the presence sensuality (or lack of) in modern erotica.
Anastasia works across multiple mediums in her exhibition, including installation, sculpture, video, performance and sound. As a part of the display, the artist will also be hosting a live poetry reading in the gallery, with special guests including Dhana Merritt, Archie Moore and Courtney Pederson. This talk will focus on the sensuality of the spoken word and will be held on May 3.
You will be able to drop in to Metro Arts and visit Crude Tools, Feeble Actions from April 24 to May 11.
