Gawk at Costumes from the Golden Age of Hollywood

A carefully curated collection of iconic costumes and memorabilia from the Golden Age of Hollywood will be unveiled at the Museum of Brisbane this weekend.

After being hidden away in suburban Brisbane for the last two decades, more than 70 costumes and props and 100 photographs and sketches will be revealed to the public for the first time in a major world-first exhibition this Saturday. Costumes from the Golden Age of Hollywood is one of the Museum of Brisbane’s most ambitious exhibitions to date, taking an impressive three years to assemble from its original beginnings as an urban myth.

Brisbane-based collector Nicholas Inglis has spent the last 20 years collecting iconic pieces worn on the silver screen by the likes of Judy Garland, Grace Kelly, Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, Lucille Ball, Elizabeth Taylor, Bette Davis and Marlon Brando. From a two-metre-wide ball gown featured in 1938’s Marie Antoinette to Gloria Swanson’s famous silk nightgown in 1950’s Sunset Boulevard, the glittering decadence of Tinseltown will be presented free to the public from Saturday November 22 to May 24, 2015.
