Watch some engrossing short films at Colourfest

Reel Connections is presenting a night of short films surrounding the issue of migration to Australia and the associated diaspora stories. The collection of shorts showcases Australia’s unique and diverse population and the tales within it.

Australia’s population centres are rapidly becoming vibrant multicultural hubs thanks to the rising numbers of migrants and their influence. While the positive influence of these cultures is helping make Australia a unique country, there are thousands of stories of heartache and loss from within the migrant Australian population that goes unheard. Colourfest is a night of short films that tell tales of migrants in their country of origin and their journeys to Australia.

On the night, attendees can watch short films made by filmmakers from countries such as China, Sudan and Turkey. Shorts include the award-winning animation, TET, which details childhood memories of war and the hopes for future generations, I Am Emmanuel, the tale of a young Sudanese Australian who is coping with the effects of his traumatic past and Naked Lady, a story of a woman pressured into an unwanted marriage. Colourfest is sponsored by Reel Connections and will take place at the Brisbane Multicultural Arts Centre on Thursday April 16.
