Cinderella at QPAC

Cinderella’s fairytale dances to the QPAC stage

The story of Cinderella has been around for centuries. The familiar fairytale of the downtrodden damsel, a slipper and a saviour of a prince has been re-envisioned in various forms and by many nations since the tale’s birth.

These versions of Cinderella stretch as wide Ancient China’s re-incarnated carps to the rather violent variations with a Grimms’ fairytale book. Cinderella (or Cendrillon or Aschenputtel depending on your nationality), may be best known as the wonderfully family-friendly Disney classic, but it will soon also be brought to life on stage with thanks to Queensland Ballet as its first main stage performance for 2013.

Opening on Friday April 5 and available to enjoy until April 20, Queensland Ballet’s version is of the traditionally romantic Western tale. Audiences will be able to see the icons signature to the story, including a royal palace, a brilliant ballgown (or rather tutu) and Cinderella’s whirlwind romance with the handsome prince at the Playhouse at QPAC. Ben Stevenson and Li Cunxin are behind this latest interpretation, which will pluck on the heartstrings of its audience members with its saturated romanticism and music by Sergei Prokofiev.
