Embrace Bundaberg Bohemians not Bogans at Bleeding Heart

Bundaberg may, unfortunately, more often than not be associated with dark rum rather than its creative talents, but one Brisbane City gallery is attempting to change that. Bleeding Heart Gallery is forming an outlet from which the country Queenslanders can display their wares.

Bundaberg Bohemians not Bogans is an exhibition engineered entirely to dispel any unpleasant stereotypes about the sugarcane district. The gallery has accrued a huge range of artworks that will be on display, with pieces from the realms of sculpture, assemblage, photography, ceramics and painting all included.

The works of 11 artists are included in the exhibition, each with a different level of experience as professional artists. Refreshingly, there will be examples of work from those creatives who have not yet shown in a gallery, as well as pieces from those artists with more than 20 years’ experience in the industry. Some of the names featured are Christine Turner, Jennifer McDuff, Clinton Cross and Sam McKenna. Contemporary art is what is nearly exclusively featured, with the weird and the wonderful on display, but certainly no rum. The exhibition will run from Friday January 18 until Thursday January 24.
