Take the troops to Brisbane Reggae Carnival

The free, family friendly Brisbane Reggae Carnival will be bringing shoulder-shimmying tunes to Rocklea this long weekend.

The Caribbean comes to Brisbane with the Brisbane Reggae Carnival over the Australia Day long weekend. Held in Rocklea’s Kookaburra Park between 11:00 am and 7:00 pm this Sunday January 25, the community music event was created by Brisbane-based youth engagement organisation Champion Sound, with support from local groups and organisations including the Council of South Sudanese Communities in Queensland, the Queensland African Communities Council, Acacia Ridge and Districts Community Centre, and more.

Inspired by London’s Notting Hill Carnival, the grassroots carnival features Champion Sound System, a purpose-built Jamaican-styled sound system built to deliver reggae music as it should be heard, along with guest artists and DJs. The celebration will also see live entertainment, market stalls, food and drinks, and a kids’ playground filling Kookaburra Park on Tramore Street.
