Toast to a Brisbane Christmas with musical celebrations

Christmas is not just a time for giving, but it is a highly celebrated occasion of over-stuffing, tipsy dancing and plenty of silly party hats. A round up of Christmas soirees are occurring in Brisbane in the next fortnight that will help pull you into the swing of yuletide festivities (if you haven’t already started).

If you are a traditionalist who enjoys a throng of carollers, tinsel and reindeer antler headbands, there is plenty of Christmas cheer to be had in the heart of Brisbane City. While you are out and about completing your Christmas shopping, the Queen Street Mall will be entertaining the masses with music galore. Carollers will roam the streets with special performances from Swing Central, the Australian Girls’ Choir and The Andrews Sisters Tribute Band, until December 24.

The musically inclined will find solace in the Hey Geronimo Christmas Party at The Zoo this Saturday. A celebration of the year that was 2012, the party will be held by the local band in a fun 1960s-themed soiree. Hey Geronimo’s hit singles will be performed alongside a slew of cover songs, with support provided by local groups Babaganouj, The Worriers and Little Odessa.

Black Bear Lodge will also be embracing yuletide entertainment, with a special party planned in conjunction with The Outpost and Uppercut Deluxe this Sunday. The free event will feature live performances from The Kramers, Hap Hathaway and DJ El Norto. Note that it will be Mexican themed, and the best dressed Mexican will win an undisclosed (but obviously awesome) prize. Doors to the evening’s festivities open at 7:00 pm.
