Become entranced by the Bolshoi Ballet’s Le Corsaire
From the land of vodka, caviar and incredible dome-shaped architecture, also comes an unparalleled dedication to the art of ballet. Russia’s prowess in the graceful form of dance is one that has long been admired around the world. Brisbane audiences will be treated to the incredible skills of the snow-covered nation’s elite dancers with the arrival of Moscow’s Bolshoi Ballet at QPAC.
The Bolshoi Ballet is one of the world’s most revered ballet companies, largely thanks to its impressive history. Originally created in 1776, the company remains based in the elaborate Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow where it is home to more than 200 talented dancers.
From May 27 to June 10, the Bolshoi Ballet will be migrating to Australia to perform an exclusive season at QPAC. Two separate performances will be involved in the Russian company’s stint in Queensland, including the elaborate Le Corsaire. The three-act dance is inspired by Lord Byron’s original poem and is an exotic foray into a land of swashbuckling pirates and slaves that was first introduced to the Bolshoi Ballet in 1856. Perhaps most exciting for dance lovers is the fact that Le Corsaire has never before been seen in Australia and tickets are still available on the QPAC website.
As a part of the Bolshoi Ballet’s arrival, there will also be an exhibition Tools of the Trade at QPAC’s Tony Gould Gallery, which will feature more than 50 costumes from the QPAC Museum collection and the Queensland Ballet. There will also be a special Russian Supper Club at QPAC’s Lyrebird restaurant to offer samples of the nation’s delicacies.
