Big Strong Brute presents its latest folk-pop offering

As musicians delve into their creative vaults in search of melodic and lyrical inspiration, adhering to the conventions of just one musical genre can impede the composer’s artistic endeavours.

Such is the case for local Brisbane artist Paul Donoughue, who performs under the moniker of Big Strong Brute – a name inspired by Paul’s alter ego. With such a brawny stage name, you could be forgiven for assuming that Paul crafts anything other than a gentle and utterly charming blend of folk and pop tunes.

Big Strong Brute’s latest musical offering is Avalanche of Truth, which, lyrically, is an album that explores the theme of loss. The songs on the album were inspired by the ending of relationships, as well the experience of losing a home at the hands of a natural disaster – a theme that arose after the string of natural disasters that occurred in Queensland last year.

The album was released on March 15 and is the perfect soundtrack for a lazy Sunday morning. Should you take a liking to the album’s tunes, you can catch Big Strong Brute along with Holly Throsby at Black Bear Lodge on March 29.
