Ryan Renshaw Gallery selected for Art Basel Hong Kong
A premier art show that began in 1970 in Basel, Switzerland, Art Basel will now stage three shows each year across Basel, Miami Beach and Hong Kong. The inaugural Hong Kong edition will run May 23–26 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, luring gallerists, collectors, artists, curators, critics and art lovers alike to experience an abundance of dynamic and immersive global artworks.
Five sectors will explore the various dimensions of modern and contemporary art, with the Insights sector showing galleries specifically from Asia and Asia-Pacific. For this sector, Art Basel Hong Kong received more than 100 applications, with only nine Australian galleries accepted, including our very own Ryan Renshaw Gallery – the only Brisbane gallery on show. Selected on the strength of the proposed exhibition, as well as the strength of the gallery’s line-up of artists and exhibitions at their home base throughout the year, Insights provides a platform to experience the highest-quality artists from the region.
Ryan Renshaw Gallery will be presenting two artists at its exhibition – New Zealand artist Peter Madden and Australian artist Rodney Glick. Peter creates enormous collages with images taken from the pages of National Geographic, set between four layers of Perspex, bringing depth to the intricacy. Rodney Glick creates large-scale sculptures of European figures carved in a traditionally Asian way. The room will see 13 of Peter Madden’s works line the walls, while three large-scale Rodney Glick sculptures will fill the floor space.
