Industrial-inspired Light + Co. apartments set to launch in West End
With a vision to bridge the past with the future, West End’s Light + Co. apartments will pay homage to the industrial origins of its site on Montague Road, seamlessly blended with modern architectural design.
On your Saturday morning trip to the Davies Park Market, you may have spied a curious rust-coloured tower perched along the river’s edge. Although no longer in it’s original position, the gas-stripping tower is a reminder of West End’s industrial past, when the South Brisbane Gas and Light Company’s gasworks provided gas to the south side of the river. Originally situated on Montague Road, the tower was moved to Davies Park in 1979, making way for new development on the old gasworks site.
With a nod to the area’s past, Pradella has announced the November launch of Light + Co. apartments, to be constructed on the corner of Montague Road and Beesley Street. The apartments will combine industrial elements with natural finishes, and boast glass-sheathed living areas filtering natural light through the space. Pradella has placed the architectural design in the hands of Rothelowman, a firm that is currently shaping the face of West End and South Brisbane through the design of Art House, The Glass Factory and the Austin apartments. The apartments will be surrounded by 4,500 square metres of private gardens, thanks to Newstead’s LAT27 landscapers. The outdoor areas will feature coarse red bricks and grey corrugated metalwork softened by lush green plants, encompassing communal swimming pools, entertainment and barbecue areas.
