With a proposed 90 storeys to begin with, Brisbane Skytower will come in as the highest habitable building in Brisbane, falling second only to Melbourne’s Eureka 89 Australia wide. It has been announced, however, that the developers are hoping to eventually take out the top spot, adding an additional 26 m to the top of the building.

Located at 222 Margaret Street in Brisbane City, Brisbane Skytower forms part of a joint venture between Sydney-based property developer Billbergia and investment house AMP Capital. The tower has been designed strategically to maximise its location, offering panoramic views over the Botanic Gardens, Brisbane River and across the Greater Brisbane landscape to Moreton Bay and the Great Dividing Range. Boasting an innovative equilateral triangle shape, Brisbane Skytower will use various architectural treatments and materials to blend in with Brisbane City’s current character, including double-glazed, full-height windows designed to reflect the changing colour of the sky. The building will have two street frontages on Margaret and Mary Streets, with a retail laneway cross-link to be developed on-site.

The project will contain approximately 1,119 residences, including one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, as well as sub-penthouse and penthouse apartments. Lower level apartments will look over a landscaped third-floor podium, while further up on the 89th floor, the sky recreation deck will be home to Australia’s highest infinity pool. Additional resident recreational areas will sit on levels 40 and 66, each including gyms, pools, outdoor kitchens and viewing decks. Residents will also be provided shared access to a fleet of electric vehicles – the first offering of its kind in Australia.

In addition to all of this, the venture recently obtained development approval for a five-star hotel at the 111 Mary Street frontage. The hotel tower has been sold to Brisbane-based Sam Chong, owner of Felicity Hotel Group, who recently developed Four Points by Sheraton on Skytower’s neighbouring block. Registrations for the development are now open, with the global launch set for November 29.
