This Saturday, celebrate the lively triumphs of the decade as King George Square is transported back in time for Back to Brisbane in the War. Don your best beige, khaki or olive garb and help recreate the look of Brisbane in the 1940s as modern-day big bands play Andrew Sisters’ classics and costume enthusiasts exhibit vintage fashions.
Try your toes at a spot of the jitterbug – this clip from 1944 will get you started – and enjoy some American carnival fare. Run by the MacArthur Museum, this free family day out will also feature re-enactment displays and activities, with walking tours around the city educating about Brisbane’s 1940s wartime history. Jitter along to King George Square, Saturday July 21 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
